Mr. Vice Skračić, a career diplomat who has served in the Croatian Foreign Service since 1992, is currently the Assistant Minister for Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia. During his time in the Croatian Foreign Service he has held a plethora of positions in the multilateral (UN and disarmament) and bilateral spheres and has served at the Croatian Embassy in Washington DC and at the Croatian Permanent Missions to the UN in both New York and Geneva (political and disarmament affairs).

Most recently Mr. Skračić was the Director for Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Oceania, Russia and the Eastern Partnership and prior to that the Head of Division for Peacekeeping and CSDP at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs. Mr. Skračić has previously held the position of Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Croatia in Washington DC (from January 2010 till February 2013), during which time he was also charge d’affaires of the Embassy from June 2011 till May 2012. Mr. Skračić also served as the political coordinator and acting Deputy Permanent Representative at the Permanent Mission of Croatia to the United Nations in New York, during Croatia’s two (2) year mandate in the United Nations Security Council (2008-2009).

During his long Foreign Service career Mr. Skračić has held a number of functional positions within the UN system, including Vice-President of the Fourth Meeting of States Parties to the Ottawa Convention on Anti-Personnel Mines in 2002 and Vice-Chairman of the UN Disarmament Commission in 1999. Mr. Skračić graduated in political science and sociology from the University of New England in 1989 and did post-graduate work in international relations at the University of Zagreb in 1994. He is married to Helena Skračić and they have one son.
