Projects in Afghanistan

As the first post-conflict country to join the EU, Croatia is deeply aware of the need to work on the prevention of conflicts and the building of state and state institutions in the post-conflict period. Support in post-conflict reconstruction is crucial, including humanitarian demining, human rights protection, especially the rights of women and girls as the most vulnerable groups, and the strengthening of women’s role in society.

Croatia launched the development cooperation in 2008 as part of the Provincial Reconstruction Team, concentrating on education (building and furnishing of co-ed elementary school for 250 children), health (building of health centre for 23,000 citizens, building of water pumps), and small-sized enterprises (sawing and tailoring courses, procuring beehives for local women entrepreneurs). In 2013 we are planning to build a midwife training centre, given the high mortality rate of childbearing women and newborns.
