State Secretary for European Affairs Andreja Metelko Zgombić 8 March 2018 held political consultations with Austrian Secretary-General for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs Michael Linhart.
Bilateral relations between Croatia and Austria are traditionally very good and friendly, and these political consultations overviewed them as well as cooperation priorities for the following period. Arrangements were made for the exchange of opinions and continued talks about preparations for the Council of the EU presidency, which Austria is to assume 1 July this year and Croatia 1 January 2020.
Croatia and Austria share the same interests and positions on the key European policies, from migrations to enlargement towards Southeast Europe. Metelko Zgombić informed Linhart about the final phase of Croatia’s preparations for joining the Schengen Area, Eurozone and OEEC.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Marija Pejčinović Burić also held brief talks with Linhart, which focused on the Croatian-Austrian relations and priorities of the two countries’ Council of the EU presidency.
